BWOF 07-2007-106A - A Basic White Dress Shirt

After the Little Black Dress, I went on to another wardrobe basic: the White Dress Shirt.
This one I did on my own and my biggest satisfaction was to eventually figure out how to make the collar, after reading the burda instructions and staring at the pointy pieces of fabric for about 2 hours. I used full length sleeves from another style from the same issue instead of the 3/4 sleeves from the design.

I am not 100% satisfied with the end result. I think it is a bit short, the sleeves are too tight at the elbow while a bit too loose at the upper arm and the oberall fit is far from perfect. But I am definitely happy that I managed to make this as my second garment ever and when I look at it I can't help but think "wow it looks like the real stuff!". I know, silly, hey...It also helps that I had access to a serger for the finishing touches, so I was able to get something really neat on the inside.

It took me ages to finish it though because of the buttons. I wanted to find the perfect buttons for it. I know, how difficult can it be to find white buttons, right ? Well, I am somewhat of a perfectionist, and I will not finish a garment that took me hours to make buy sewing on cheap buttons. Eventually, I found the right ones thanks to my friend Amelie, whose grandparents actually used to own a mother-of-pearl button factory and her family had tons of leftover buttons. She brought me a few samples and I chose one from there. Thanks Amelie !

They don't look like much on the photo but these are the perfect buttons for that shirt, I tell you !
